[Café Ichie]: Visit a Renovated Century-Old Café in an Onsen Hotel in Takehara City’s Townscape Preservation District

Last year, a friend from the Philippines and I traveled to Takehara in late October to attend a light-up event. Now, I want to introduce the café we stopped by before the event because we found it to be our favorite place in Takehara!

Café Ichie is a charming and delightful confectionary shop and café in a renovated 100-year-old ryokan*, located in the Townscape Preservation District of Takehara, Hiroshima Prefecture.
During our visit, I had ozenzai**, and my friend had baked cakes made of brown rice topped with sweet beans and butter.
We not only enjoyed the sweets but also the atmosphere of the café.
We took off our shoes in its tatami mat interior, which was very relaxing, warm and inviting.
For me, this café is a must-see stop for anyone visiting Takehara.

*A ryokan is a traditional onsen hotel
**Ozenzai is a red bean soup served with two baked brown rice cakes.

Take a break from exploring the town with freshly ground coffee, green tea, and pastries.
Their warm drinks are great this season, but their shaved ice and ice creams also look incredibly tasty!

Konnichiwa! My name is Anne.
I live in a port town called Kure City, 40 minutes by car from Hiroshima City.
We have many beautiful islands. There is an abundance of seafood and fruits.
The place is surrounded by sea and mountains. You can experience walking on narrow streets, hiking on mountains and even climbing stairs.
Strolling around the town is also enjoyable.
You will surely find your own Seto Inland Sea trip here!
