[1-Day Event: Sun., Jan. 7] Join Fukuyama’s Earliest Bean Throwing
Have you heard of mamemaki (bean throwing)?
It is a traditional event usually held in Japan on Setsubun (a holiday welcoming good fortune for the new year and driving out misfortune with roasted soybeans)on February 3, but this event is the earliest bean-throwing event in the nation.
The venue will be the Fukuyama Castle plaza, just a short walk from the Fukuyama Station bullet train stop. Why not stop by and grab some good luck at the start of the new year?
◆Date & Time: January 7, 2024, 10:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
◆Place: Plaza in front of Fukuyama Castle
◆Contents:
(1) Bean-throwing (five tosses):
Every tossing will involve up to 600 people who will through more than 20,000 beans, and fortune capsules with free tickets and souvenirs will be handed out.
❶ from 10:30 a.m., ❷ From 11:30 a.m., ❸ from 12:30 p.m., ❹ from 1:30 p.m., and ❺ from 3:00 p.m.
The following events will be held at the same time as the bean-throwing. Each performance will allow up to 100 people, for a maximum of 500 people.
Vouchers will be handed out for both (1) and (2).
(2) Live performance by Garyu, a live taiko drumming unit
10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
(3) Food and drink booths and hands-on experience counters: 10:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
(4) Gifs of lucky beans!
The first 3,000 people who do not get a participation voucher will get a limited Fukumaki 2024 bag of fuku-mame, instead.
