Are you looking for a spot to see the year’s first sunrise?
If you are staying near Onomichi, the top of Mt. Senkoji is the best view.
From here, you can get a panoramic view of Onomichi and its channel, famous as a first-sunrise viewing spot that attracts many visitors every year.
Usually, the sun rises around 7:10 a.m. The Senkoji Ropeway offers a special service from 6:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day, and you can get to the station at the summit in only three minutes.
If you are among the first 100 visitors to use the ropeway, you will receive an Onomichi travel calendar.
You can enjoy watching the first sunrise from the Senkoji Summit Observatory peak, which reopened in 2021, and the nearby Senkoji Park Observatory MiTeMi.
