Visit a Food Sample Park in Okayama

One of the funny, odd things that Japan is known for is food samples. Made from plastic resin, food samples are often used at the entrance of restaurants to show what a dish looks like. These are unique to Japan. The Kappabashi area in Tokyo is known for stores selling food samples and other kitchen equipment. Right now, you can make and buy food samples in Okayama!

For a short time, the Icot Nicot shopping center in front of JR Okayama Station is holding a special food sample fair; at this event, you can see displays of and play with food samples, make your own keychain or magnet in a workshop, and buy souvenirs of food samples at the gift shop.

All ages are welcome!

Date & Time: January 6–28, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Location: Icot Nicot shopping center, 1F event space. Icot Nicot is a 5-minute walk from JR Okayama Station

Fee: 500 Yen for entrance into the play area; 1,980 yen to participate in the workshop

I'm from the U.S.A., but I've lived longer in Okayama. I'm a sake sommelier, certified by the Sake Sommelier Association in London. I love traveling in Japan, beautifully presented food and desserts, great art, taking photos, hiking and walking, visiting gardens, and spending time with family and friends.
