Etajimasou Hotel: Discover Serenity in the Seto Inland Sea in Hiroshima

Etajimasou Hotel: Discover Serenity in the Seto Inland Sea in Hiroshima

This time, I want to introduce how Hiroshima people enjoy their holidays.

Beautiful islands of all sizes are spread out, facing the calm Seto Inland Sea in Hiroshima. During holidays, Hiroshima people often enjoy casual cycling around these islands or going on overnight trips to hot springs.

Etajima is one of the larger islands and about a 30-minute boat ride from Hiroshima Port. I have gone there to play since I was a child with my mother and grandmother.

While sitting on a ferry, the view of the Seto Inland Sea is always serene and sparkling.

With small and large islands appearing to float in the sea, the scenery feels like a traditional ink painting.

This ferry is lined with the bicycles of Hiroshima residents traveling to enjoy cycling.

Etajima has four hotels, in addition to guesthouses and onsen hotels.
Among them, Etajimasou stands in the most peaceful area along the sea.
It’s a relatively new hotel that opened only three years ago after its owner fell in love with the sea.

They serve Hiroshima wine and Etajima sake.

The interior of the hotel is decorated with lamps and walls made of traditional washi paper shaped like the Etajima’s flower, the chrysanthemum.

This navel orange pound cake made with oranges from Etajima that shows their attention to detail.

But the best part of a stay at Etajimasou is undoubtedly the sea itself.
You can enjoy a luxurious view of the Seto Inland Sea from the lobby and your room through full-length glass windows.

A panoramic Seto Inland Sea View from a hotel room

We visited on a calm and sunny day in February. People were fishing in the sea in front of us, and some were doing stand-up paddle boarding.

In summer, you can enjoy the food stalls lining the seafront and swim in the sea.
In October, you can see fireworks from your room.

During the G7 summit, the families of the German Air Force enjoyed their stay here.
There is even more fun to be had on Etajima.

My last stay left me wondering when I would go next and what I’ll do then.
