【Autumn Exhibition at Fukuyama Castle Museum】Learn about the Black Ship and the Opening of Japan

Do you know which castle in Japan is closest to a bullet train station?

It’s Fukuyama Castle. This beautiful castle can be viewed directly from the Fukuyama Station platform.

A special autumn exhibition is currently underway at the historic Fukuyama Castle Museum.

The exhibition showcases paintings that depict the turbulent period at the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate, marking the arrival of the black ships and Japan’s opening to the outside world.

The exhibition, themed around Masahiro Abe—the seventh lord of the Abe family from the Fukuyama Clan—highlights the opening of Japan to the world, the arrival of the Black Ships, and the subsequent Treaty of Friendship between Japan and the United States.

Let’s dive into the Japanese history at this museum nestled within the beautiful castle!
