[Special Coupon] Dine on a Mini Bowl of Chicken Skin Simmered in Miso at Tone Honten
Izakaya are traditional casual drinking establishments in Japan.
After work, I often head over to an izakaya to chat with friends and coworkers while enjoying a beer or a cup of sake with a meal.
Come over to Kure to visit an izakaya that might become your favorite!
Tone Honten serves a wide range of dishes, including sashimi, chicken skewers, and a wide variety of other delicious dishes.
This Kure izakaya’s main draw is their Japanese chicken.
Plus, all their chicken is made in Japan!
Of course, I must mention Kure’s famous Beef Curry Tone: Japan SDF* curry and rice!
*Japan Self Defense Force. Each fleet serves its service members unique curry flavors.
Another one of Kure’s specialties is chicken skin cooked in miso!
It is made from the skin of local oyadori [Literally “parent chicken”] and has become harder to find recently. This skin slowly simmered in a white miso paste and sake from Kure.
The softness of this long-enjoyed, easy-to-eat delicacy is achieved by allowing the slight sweetness of the white miso to soak into the skin of the oyadori.
Give it a try–the seasoning of this dish varies by restaurant.
Tone Honten simmers the chicken skin in miso for a subtle flavor and texture that goes down smoothly.
You might also enjoy comparing different chicken skin offerings served at other izakaya in Kure.

Set sail on a cruise and get an up-close view of mighty ships (duration: about 30 minutes)! The evening cruise that departs at sunset is also highly recommended.

Konnichiwa! My name is Anne.
I live in a port town called Kure City, 40 minutes by car from Hiroshima City.
We have many beautiful islands. There is an abundance of seafood and fruits.
The place is surrounded by sea and mountains. You can experience walking on narrow streets, hiking on mountains and even climbing stairs.
Strolling around the town is also enjoyable.
You will surely find your own Seto Inland Sea trip here!
