[Keep an Eye Out for Oyster Festivals (Kure)]

Hiroshima is Japan’s top producer of oysters. In fact, more than half of Japan’s oysters are produced here. The history of oyster farming goes back at least 400 years ago to the 14th to 16th centuries. Hiroshima oysters are known for large, meaty and flavorful oysters, despite their small shells. The oyster season runs from January to February.

During this season, numerous oyster festivals and other events are held in oyster-producing areas in Hiroshima Prefecture. They are all about tasting and buying these seasonal delights! There will also be events hosted in and around Kure. Don’t miss out on this most delicious season!

Anne

Konnichiwa! My name is Anne.
I live in a port town called Kure City, 40 minutes by car from Hiroshima City.
We have many beautiful islands. There is an abundance of seafood and fruits.
The place is surrounded by sea and mountains. You can experience walking on narrow streets, hiking on mountains and even climbing stairs.
Strolling around the town is also enjoyable.
You will surely find your own Seto Inland Sea trip here!
